May be difficult to stop the spreading of fungus-based diseases by just trimming back the areas that have been affected. If this is the case you may need to talk to a garden supply expert about using commercial fungus treatment products.
Here are some common guidelines to help you reduce the chances of your roses being affected by fungus:
- Cut all diseased blooms and canes and place them in the garbage can.
- Remove all fallen leaves and clippings and clean your rose beds on a regular basis.
- Regular pruning must be adhered to. Allow air to circulate by pruning out the center of the rose bushes.
- Use Elmer’s Glue to seal all cuts. It is an inexpensive, safe and effective way to prevent fungus.
- Do not water the plant itself but water the soil around the rose plant.
- Always feed your roses on a regular basis. Wee-fed roses are better resistant to infection.
If you live in an area where there is high humidity and heat, then you want to choose disease-resistant roses. These roses are not necessarily disease-free flowers, but there may be a less likely chance of the plant becoming infected if you practice regular maintenance tips. |
